F-15 Speed Brake Test System
MERC was tasked by the U.S. Air Force to develop a proof test for the F-15 Speed Brake. Existing non-destructive inspection focused on ultrasonic methods for identification of voids or disbonds in the composite part. For this project, a load-based test was desired to prove speed brake performance.

Areas of Expertise
The MDD provides professional resolutions to technical challenges for a variety of government and industry clients. The MDD staff has extensive experience in design of aircraft and vehicle systems, machine component design, aircraft maintenance equipment development, test system development, and ground vehicle testing and analysis. The MDD personnel are experienced in three-dimensional modeling on several CAD software platforms and reverse engineering through use of coordinate measuring machines (CMM). With in-house machining and fabrication resources and materials test equipment, the MDD can build, test, and/or qualify prototypes to a variety of customer specifications. The MDD has performed test data acquisition (DAQ) and processing through the use of data recorders, strain gages, accelerometers, displacement transducers and thermocouples.
The Mechanical Design Division (MDD) offers various capabilities in mechanical engineering and material science to meet the engineering needs of our customers.
